How to use this plan
Allow ten to fifteen minutes for each session. Read the selected chapter, choose one short passage within it, and write a sentence about what you noticed. The goal is attentive reading across several kinds of biblical writing. You can take more than seven calendar days; continue where you stopped. Bookmark this guide so the next reading is easy to find.
Days 1–3 stay in Mark but are not a substitute for eventually reading the whole Gospel. Days 4–7 introduce a parable, a psalm, teaching, and a letter. When an unfamiliar reference raises a question, record it and return to it rather than forcing an instant explanation.
Days 1–3: meet Jesus in Mark
Day 1 — Mark 1: Notice how the opening chapter introduces Jesus, the call of disciples, healing, and prayer. Which people respond, and how? Write down one question about the announcement of God’s kingdom. Read a scene twice before trying to apply it.
Day 2 — Mark 2: Follow the encounters concerning forgiveness, meals, fasting, and the Sabbath. What question or objection appears in each scene? Compare what the characters expect with what Jesus says.
Day 3 — Mark 4: Read the parable of the sower and its explanation together. List the different responses to the word. Then read the storm scene and ask how the disciples’ question at the end develops the chapter’s concern with hearing and trust.
Days 4–7: prayer, mercy, and shared life
Day 4 — Luke 15: Begin with verses 1–2 to identify the audience and complaint. Read all three stories about loss and recovery. How does the older brother’s response connect to the chapter’s opening? Resist treating the final story as though it has only one important character.
Day 5 — Psalm 23: Track the movement from shepherd to host. Which image speaks about danger and which about welcome? Write a short prayer or reflection in response, allowing space for uncertainty or grief.
Day 6 — Matthew 6: Notice the repeated warnings about being seen by others. Read the Lord’s Prayer and identify its shared requests. Choose one line to think about during the day.
Day 7 — Philippians 2: Read the appeal to humility alongside the passage about Christ. How does the example relate to the community’s relationships? End the week by choosing a complete book to read next, such as Mark or Philippians, and setting a realistic next session.
